“Hey, Nino,” Ohno murmured, “there’s something I want to tell you.”
“Hmm?” Nino shifted slightly, looking up at Ohno.
“But first you have to sing your song.”
“Which one?”
“The one you wrote in code.”
“Ahh, so troublesome.” Nino turned back so he was once again leaning on Ohno’s shoulder, and continued his game. Ohno pouted slightly, but didn’t press it.
Some time passed with Ohno silent as ever, and curiosity eventually got the better of Nino. He asked to confirm, “So if I sing it, you’ll tell me?”
“Yup.” Ohno smiled. “I’ll do the backing vocals.”
“All right.” Nino felt a little silly, but since it was just the two of them, he decided to give it a go.
Because it’s embarrassing,
I’ll send it to you in a code.
It felt strange to Nino, singing it simply with Ohno instead of the usual girls’ voices, but it wasn’t unpleasant. In fact, he didn’t know if they would ever do something like this again…
You look so cute,
Being unable to figure it out, and yet so determined.
Nino watched Ohno beaming at him, and had a strange sense that he was actually on the receiving end of these words. His mind raced while he continued with the chorus, and he thought ahead to the end of the song. A sudden flash of realisation hit him.
Your smile is a better answer than anything else,
You’ve deciphered it. And now,
There’s one more thing I have yet to say to you, and that’s…
Nino closed his eyes and savoured the last words, sung in a lovely harmony by the one and only Ohno Satoshi.
I love you…
When he opened his eyes, Ohno was looking at him shyly, waiting for a reaction.
“You sly dog, you.” Nino chuckled. “Come here.”
With a single hand, he drew Ohno closer, and gently placed a kiss on his forehead.
