DAN DAN DANG! Me no mae wo toorisugiru dake no hi wo

DAN DAN DANG! Kaete yuke souzou no ima e

The lyrics replayed in his head.

Although he didn't fully remember, he knew there was a part about standing still, and the wind will eventually change.

How did it go again?

...chigau kaze ni fuku darou?

Well, something like that.

And that happiness was always in your hands.

Shiawase wa kitto boku no te no naka ni...

He had tried, really.

But it didn't seem possible that happiness was in his hands at that moment.

His hands.

The long slender fingers, which he used to draw, fish, make clay figurines.

Which he used to feel for the phone to call his Nino.

No, he decided, not yet.

He cancelled the call.

How? What? Why? The emotions whirled over his head.

This could not be happening.

But it was.

In the darkened hospital ward, the only sign of movement was a lonely spider scuttling into a crack in the wall.

He shifted his body and tried to find a cool spot on his pillow. His plaster cast made a dull thud on the side of the bed.

Tomorrow, he thought. Tomorrow I'll wake up and find it's all a dream.

---------------------------------------------------

Flashback:

He buried his face in the quilt, inhaling the familiar smell. There was a dull ache in his heart. An ache that intensified with every breath he took.

He wanted to cry so badly. "We can't be together anymore," she had said. The image of her eyes, so gentle, yet full of remorse, was still clear in his heart. "My parents have found me a rich man to marry. I have to do it... My family's business cannot be sustained much longer. If I marry him, then we shall be have enough money to last us for the rest of our lives. I'm sorry, Ohno-kun, but I have to do it. For my family's sake." She turned away from him and slowly walked off, while all he could do was stand there staring after her.

When he came to his senses, she was gone. It was barely all he could do to get himself home onto his bed.

He knew he was poor. An artist like him wouldn't make much money.

But to give up something he truly cared for, that was just too much.

He could understand doing something for family. Family was important, after all.

But he also couldn't accept it. Why her? Why him?

He decided he needed some air.

---------------------------------------------------

At the park. The one he always went to when he was upset.

Plonking himself down on his favourite bench, he held his head in his hands and tried to think of what he would do now.

Without realising it, he began to shake and tears ran down his face.

A dark haired boy was walking past, and saw that something was wrong.

"What's wrong?" he asked, sitting next to him on the bench. "Why are you crying?"

Ohno hunched up further. He hadn't known there was someone on this world that still cared.

Before he knew it, everything poured out, just like the salty drops trickling down his cheeks. He couldn't explain it, but he just felt... comfortable with this boy, somehow.

"Oh, I see." The boy looked at him. "You got dumped, huh."

"It's alright," he continued. "Everyone gets dumped at some point in time. Even i was dumped once before."

"Come," he pulled Ohno's arm. "Let me bring you somewhere to forget."

Ohno wiped his eyes and followed him. If there was something that could make him feel better, why not.

---------------------------------------------------

The younger boy brought him to an arcade.

Not long after, they were both so immersed in playing the machines that they completely forgot the time. And Ohno temporarily forgot his sorrows.

They were interrupted when Ohno's phone rang. It was his mum, asking him whether he was coming home for dinner.

"I made a new friend," said Ohno. "Can I bring him over?"

His mum was a bit surprised, but agreed readily.

After he hung up, the boy was staring at him.

"We barely just met and you want to bring me home for dinner?" he questioned incredulously.

"Yes, I'd like to thank you for helping to make me happy. And the food my Ka-chan cooks, it's mecha umai!"

"But you don't even know my name!" The boy protested.

"Oh, that's right." Ohno frowned. How could he forget something so important as this? "So, what's your name? I'm Ohno Satoshi," he offered his hand.

"I'm Ninomiya Kazunari, but you can call me Nino," the boy replied, taking it.

Nino. Ohno replayed it in his mind. Such a nice name, he thought.

"Well," he said at length. "Dinner?"
