Anniversary

Title: Anniversary
Author: duckyshimetai/nijimirai
Beta-reader: none
Pairing: Sakumoto
Length: in-between
Rating: PG13
Summary: It's Sho and Jun's anniversary, and Sho really wanted to cook for Jun, but...
Notes: My first Sakumoto fic! Okay I just really wanted to post something after so long, and why not Sakumoto, since quite a few of my friends here on DW (and my lovely exchange beta, [personal profile] lapetit_chou2 ) enjoy this pairing? Okay but seriously, this was really the first story idea I had in a long while that didn't include tons of research/worldbuilding, so I just wanted to get it out. Many thanks to [personal profile] mikunicchi  for tons of help too ♥

------------------------------------------

Sho wiped the sweat off his forehead as he checked the recipe again. The kitchen was filling with steam from the pot and the heat was starting to be a little overwhelming.

Sho had taken half a day off work to pick up the ingredients and get home before Jun. It was their anniversary, and Sho had been preparing for this for months, secretly watching cooking shows on YouTube and studying the recipes as if he were going to take an exam on them.

Making the pasta dough from scratch had taken longer than anticipated, though, and soon his entire upper body, not to mention the whole countertop, was covered in flour.

The little pieces of pasta looked passable though, so he set them in a pot of boiling water on the stove. "Ah, salt the pasta!" He berated himself for forgetting the step. Grabbing the container of white crystals on the countertop, he shook somd in. By the time he managed to chop all the vegetables and put everything in another saucepan on high heat, the pasta was threatening to be overdone.

Scrambling to drain the pasta into a colander, he knocked over the roll of kitchen towels. It rolled towards the floor, unwinding as it went. Sho made a mental note to pick it up once all the pasta went into the colander.

When he was done, he placed the pot into the sink where it hissed gently, and started picking up the kitchen towel. After rolling it back up, a burning smell alerted him to the fact that he'd forgotten to stir the sauce.

In his haste, the spoon he grabbed slipped from his hold and went clattering under the table.

As Sho bent down to pick up the spoon, a sudden click came from the front door. The noise startled Sho and he jumped, bumping his head. “Ow!”

“Sho, is that you?” Jun called from the front door. Placing a bouquet on the living room table, he walked towards the kitchen, silently hoping that his ears were playing tricks on him.

The fine layer of white powder at the entrance to the kitchen raised Jun’s suspicions, and as he approached the kitchen, his fears were confirmed.

The sight of his boyfriend standing miserably in the kitchen covered in flour might have made Jun laugh, had it not been for his exhausting day at work and the alarming smell of something burning on the stove. Assessing that Sho didn't appear to be in any immediate danger, Jun's worry turned to anger.

Sho!”

The amount of fury concentrated in that single word was enough to make Sho tremble. He briefly thought about escaping to another country before bracing himself to face Jun’s wrath.

Jun pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.

“Sho, go shower. I’ll clean all this up.”

Sho was about to say something, but the expression on Jun’s face was enough to persuade him otherwise. He meekly trotted towards the bathroom, but Jun wasn’t finished.

“We’ll talk about this later.”

---

While Sho was getting himself clean, Jun rolled up his sleeves and began to tidy the mess. As he switched off the burner, he noticed a few recipes that Sho had photocopied for use lying nearby. The recipes were covered with little notes, saying things like “Jun likes this” and “Jun said this would be better with cheese”. Sho’s thoughtfulness sent a few tendrils of warmth into Jun’s heart.

The same could not be said for the sight of the flour-covered counter, however. Jun wrinkled his nose as he wiped down the surfaces and put the dirty utensils in the sink.

Peering into the colander, he wondered if the pasta was salvageable. It did look at least halfway decent. However, as Jun picked up a piece with chopsticks to try it, he nearly spat it out. It was sweet.

“Oh, Sho…” he groaned, slapping his forehead. Knowing Sho, he must have mistaken the sugar for salt.

Jun ended up making the dinner. Fortunately, Sho had had the presence of mind to buy extra ingredients in case he messed up.

The tension was thick throughout dinner, which (Sho admitted to himself) was still more delicious than anything he could have done himself. After Jun did the washing up, he sat Sho down in the living room to talk about the happenings of the day.

“I’m so sorry, Jun.” Sho hung his head like a schoolboy. “I had it all planned out, down to after dinner, and…” His voice faded under Jun’s stern look.

Jun heaved a sigh. “Sho,” he began reproachfully. “What was the rule that we had about you and the kitchen?”

Sho looked down at his feet and mumbled, “I’m not allowed within two feet of the kitchen entrance.”

Jun eyed him with his arms still folded. “And why is that?”

Sho wished the ground would swallow him up. He said in a tiny voice, “Because I always mess up when I try to cook.”

The forlorn look on Sho’s face melted Jun’s heart just a little. Sho had only been trying to surprise him, after all. And it was their anniversary. (And he hadn’t broken anything this time, thank goodness.) Jun thought a little and decided to let him off lightly.

“You’re such an idiot.”

Sho winced.

Jun continued, “But you’re an adorable idiot, so I forgive you this time. There won’t be another chance though.”

He opened his arms towards Sho.

“Come here, you.”

Sho raised an eye timidly before obediently moving over. Jun enveloped him in a hug, breathing in the smell of a freshly washed Sho.

Nuzzling against the side of Sho’s neck, Jun murmured, “You mentioned that you also planned something out for tonight?”

A slow grin spread over Sho’s face as he recalled his plans for the night.

Jun may be the master of the kitchen, but no one could beat Sho in the bedroom.

This was a great story! Haven't read a decent Sakumoto fic for ages (although they're my least favorite Sho-pairing).

I think this story needs a sequel, but I feel like it'll be a bit rating, because you mentioned in your story "but no one could beat Sho in the bedroom", although I prefer doM Sho lol
